New typefaces from Microsoft
I just viewed an interesting video from Channel 9 about the history behind typefaces from Microsoft’s point of view. The video is about 1hr long and features a brief(well not really) history of typography for the computer screen.
The video also deals with the new suite of fonts being released and one new font that stands out is Consolas. It is primarly geared to be a replacement to Courier (probably the most popular and widely used font by programmers) and have to admit it looks, works and is very easy on the eyes.
Being that most fonts are almost always designed for print, I have to give MS props for thinking about programmers and releasing fonts specifically for us.
